On April 29th, a federal order went into effect regarding the interstate movement of lactating dairy cattle and H5N1/Bovine Influenza A Virus (BIAV). This order prohibits the movement of animals from a currently affected or suspect premises and enacts testing requirements. In addition to their standard import requirements, lactating dairy cattle moving interstate have the following requirements:

Intact female dairy cattle moving directly to slaughter must have either a CVI listing lactation status and official identification, or an alternate movement document listing official identification or back tag numbers. This alternate movement document is only valid for animals moving directly to slaughter.
For more details see the administrative order from May 2, 2024 and the USDA movement order effective April 29, 2024.

Current Events Impacting Import Permit requirements:

Premises in the following states have been under quarantine for Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) within the past 30 days.

  • None Currently
Animals located on a premises where VS has been diagnosed may not enter Idaho. All other livestock coming from these states require an entry permit or approved eCVI and a VS statement on their CVI.

There have been some recent updates to the requirements for importing animals into the state of Idaho. These include:

  • Non-EIA tested horses destined to an approved equine facility are now required to have entry permits.
  • Entry Permits are not required when using an approved electronic CVI form. The only approved eCVI forms are those from GlobalVetLink, State of Oregon, Washington OVIS, Vet Sentry, Sale Time, Mi-Corporation, myVetTech, Acclaim Systems VET CVI and State of Texas. If you are not using one of these forms, normal permit requirements still apply. Please note VSPS is NOT an approved eCVI system.
